We’re excited to announce what is now officially the second annual Public Space Singalong! This time, we’ll be celebrating the dual nature of both existence and Los Angeles’ favorite anthropomorphic feet at the Happy Foot Sad Foot sign on Sunset Boulevard, on the Silver Lake/Echo Park border.
We’re again collaborating with Machine Project, this time as part of their Field Guide to LA Architecture for the Getty PST initiative. At 7pm this Sunday, we’ll meet at Machine (1200 D North Alvarado Street just north of Sunset, Echo Park, LA 90026) and then process together down Sunset Boulevard to the base of the Happy Foot Sad Foot sign. There we’ll join together in a singalong that will oscillate between happy and sad songs. As always, songbooks will be provided, and the tone-deaf and singing-phobic are welcome (though singing is heartily encouraged)!
If you want to receive a songbook and playlist to familiarize yourself with the songs before the event, just email email@example.com with the subject line [I’m ready for an emotional roller coaster ride]. More on the event is here and here.
The singalong also serves as the official launch of www.sunsetfootclinicsign.com, Bennett Williamson’s website that presents a faithfully recreated 3-D animation of the local icon. This single-serving website provides fate-prediction services for users outside of the greater Echo Park / Silverlake area. It also serves as a kind of digital life insurance for the populist landmark, spinning in perpetuity for the many chintzy vernacular L.A. landmarks and signage that have fallen victim to the developer’s bulldozer.
Hope to see you this Sunday!
